Pray this post find you well. This is good! I like this! I share your concerns and you know you have my wheels turning. I am about to do some soul searching and figure out just who I am, and perhaps share it with my grandchild, and others of course. I must admit though, I do have a fear, but you know I must keep a sound mind, and see it as meaning to my existence, Right?
During the time period of my upcoming recovery (approximate 5 months) I think I will go forward and put an effort in finding my roots, If not all of it, at least some of it. I just pray that I can get past all the other stuff (i.e. Slavery, Jim Crow, Reparation).
Speaking of which, and your post is perfect timing for me to request, that you check out Ta-Nehesi Coates writing. The brother did his homework. Player, I mean the brother is incredibly impressive. (Sorry, Got ghetto for a minute). Whenever you get a moment, check out The June Issue of the Atlantic on his piece “The Case for Reparation.” In…credi….ble! Another one of my favorite piece by him is called “Between the World and Me.” Powerful! If you don’t like to read, you can go on YouTube and hear his interviews. I assure you, you will not be disappointed. TRUST!
Ms. Bender thank you for sharing, and for given me the forethought to finally find out “Who I Be.” Its time….. I think!
Well Done!
