Advance report of durable goods
New orders for manufactured durable goods in April increased 3.3 percent, to $222.6 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 1.3 percent. Overall shipments decreased 0.6 percent and capital goods shipments fell 3.3 percent. Unfilled orders increased 0.3 percent, and inventories rose 0.4 percent in April.
New Residential Construction
Building permits in April 2013 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,017,000, up 14.3 percent from the revised March rate and up 35.8 percent from April 2012. Housing starts in April 2013 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 853,000, down 16.5 percent from the revised March estimate but up 13.1 percent from April 2012.
Personal Income
Personal income in March 2013 increased 0.2 percent. Nominal personal consumption expenditures (PCE) rose 0.2 percent. Real PCE increased 0.3 percent. Nominal disposable personal income (DPI) rose 0.2 percent. Real DPI increased 0.3 percent. The personal saving rate as a percentage of DPI was 2.7 percent in March.
