When KCET’s SoCal Connected ran their story Compton:
Corruption, Incompetence, or Just Business As Usual? it was amazing that it took this long to catch on to a story that was widely reported by the Compton Bulletin’s former staff writer, Allison Eaton, the district attorneys office is looking into questionable actions by the current city council. On April 3rd, 2013, Alita Godwin received the following letter from District Attorney Jackie Lacey, who unlike her predecessor has no problem in looking into misconduct by elected officials, without regard to one of them being her colleague.
She is requesting documents related to: car allowances, Bakewell and Bunkley Investments and Mark Woods. Lets see how long it takes Mrs. Godwin to produce them.
Read the full letter addressed to City Clerk Alita Goodwin below.
The District Attorneys office has released the following statement:
“The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has opened an investigation into public corruption involving the Compton City Council. We are not commenting any further at this time.”
