As we all know all aquamarines where gifted to queen Juliana. The oval pendant has been described as a wedding present by her husband prince Bernhard.
In this article jewel expert Martijn Akkerman stated that it's hard to believe that the prince was in 1936 able to buy this present. As his family was rather poor at that time. He stated that the most likely scenario is that queen Wilhelmina who was in that time very fond of prince Bernhard and that she gave the aquamarine to him and that he could give it to his wife Juliana.
He also stated that it's most likely that this aquamrine comes from the inheretance of queen Anna Paulowna.
I was a bit surprised by this news. In the past mr. Akkerman wrote more articles about the Dutch royal collection, and he has had it wrong in the past. But this one could be true to me. We all know that the family Von Lippe Biesterfeld didn't have much cash in the 30ies. What do you think?
