The brooch or actually a stomacher is one of the oldest pieces in the collection of the Dutch Royal family. It once belonged to Catharina Paulowna queen consort of Würtemberg. Her daugther Sophie inherited the piece and took it with her when she married the future king Willem 3rd. After her death it came to her son Alexander and after his death Wilhelmina inherted the piece. Both Wilhelmina and Juliana wore the complete piece but Beatrix usually wore only the bow part with pearl or diamond pendants.
