In the sixties, along the Dead Horse Point road, a VW with a Mom a step dad and a teenage girl visited with a stranger. When they came out of the road to the viewpoint, they saw his car stopped beside the highway. They stopped to help. He shot the parents and apparently was coming after the girl. She drove the VW a short way and he forced her off the road. That was the last real thing anyone knows. Rumored that he took her hostage and kept her somewhere and then got rid of her. Days later he was pulled over just miles from where the incident happened, and he was said to have shot himself before the patrolman could reach the car. He was a former Marine, a father and husband and his family lived in Price, Utah. He was supposedly job-hunting. I'm not sure how they connected him to the killing of the mother. But the step-dad lived and told the first part of the story. Said the man was what they thought was just a nice visitor to the same viewpoint as they... Denice Sullivan was never found. A girl's tennis shoe was found near a mining camp up on Polar Mesa...but it wasn't proven to be hers, though this guy had been there and some of the miners had talked to him. I'd like to know the rest of the story.
