I remember watching the Perseid meteor shower as a kid in Kennebunkport, Maine - far away from any light pollution. These meteors come every August and are absolutely awasome! A bunch of us kids just lied down in an open field and we were able to see 2-3 meteor flashes every minute. Some were just tiny little lines that flashed for a second, but others were big flashes that raced across half the sky for a second. Nothing like that can be visible in New York City.
