I went back to Utah in 1967 and Bill followed me. My folks stayed here, building up this wee farm/ranch. Long story short. As their only child, when Mom died Oct 1979 and Dad followed her Jan 1980...we returned and have lived here ever since.
The Army engineers decided to straighten out the jetty by the dock. It was a ghastly mistake. It created a sand trap and even with dredging the sand out, the big ships couldn't dock here anymore. Government took over and basically ruled and regulated both the timber and the seafood industry til there's no timber industry here, and only the bare minimum fishing industry. People can find work at the stores 1 Convenience store (Used to be Circle K--) 1 Dollar General and a supermarket called Ray's Food Place. There's now only a Chevron gas station. So teachers, cashiers, motel workers and the few fisher-folks are about the only residents with earning power.
