He and a friend had been playing cards with his mom, decided to go to the local watering hold for a 6-pack. They walked the 3 blocks or so, and bought the beer; the waitress made a $2 loan to him because he was that much short.
They'd had gas in the car, but left it at his mom's place and walked. That was the last place they were seen. No one knew which way they went.
Searches followed, but no sign was ever found. They had only the clothes they had on and the beer. The families never had any closure at all.
