I'm not sure that I understand your point about his not being able to be an 'heir apparent'. Whoever the King appointed as heir apparent would be the heir apparent. Non?
An heir apparent is someone who cannot be replaced by a newborn dynast. If the King of Thailand has the power to make another child his heir, than the one who is replaced was never an heir apparent.
