There has been much speculation over the years over Haya's motivation for marrying the much older Emir of Dubai, from a shared passion for horses to her wanting to replace her father to more materialistic reasons - both and she her brother have enjoyed a vastly better lifestyle and profile than they would have enjoyed as the younger siblings of the Jordanian King.
Divorce is certainly fine within the Islamic faith and within Middle Eastern royal houses, so if she has taken the decision to flee to a European country and take her children with her, she must have been absolutely desperate.
However even if Haya doesn't wish to return to the UAE, I do not see how Germany can legitimately retain her children without the Emir's consent or unless Haya makes a successful case that they are at harm in their father's care, which will undoubtedly escalate this issue into a major potential issue.
after the reported breakdown of her marriage to the ruler of Dubai.

Personally I always found it a bit odd that an educated and independent woman like Princess Haya would have wanted to become just another of Sheikh Mohammed's many wives in his harem in Dubai. That said, whatever floats (or floated) her boat I guess.
However, now that things have apparently turned nasty, we are probably seeing the unfortunate and maybe not too surprising consequences of her choices. I hope that her Jordanian family will give her all the support she will now need although I appreciate the King will have to tread a delicate line to try to avoid an out and out rupture in relations with Dubai that the unfortunate breakdown of her marriage could entail.
