Re: King Salman gets authorities to close French beach
I saw on BBC World yesterday that local businesses (especially hoteliers and high-end shops) are very happy about it. It's the local residents (and presumably holiday home owners) who are unhappy. A young man who was interviewed talked about how it was contrary to French values, which are based on the idea of everyone being equal under the law and the beach being a public good. It's an interesting issue because, while it may seem kind of trivial to those of us not directly affected, it does tap into French ambivalence about capitalism and globalization. --Previous Message-- : --Previous Message-- : It's good to be king, as they say... : : All I can say is that the income generated : by the King's presence had better be worth : it! : :
