The Matsunoki appear to have been a Fujiwara branch family. The Matsunoki belonged to the urinke, the military class, of the kuge.
Thus, also lady Muneko seems to have been of Fujiwara birth, like so many other mothers of tennous throughout a millennium and so.
Similarly, the Kawabata were a family of urinke Fujiwara, from the Kyoto court.
