I am new to the board. I was wondering about my chances of getting in. I have a 3.78 cGPA, 3.8 sGPA. I got 302 on the GRE. I have about 2500 health care hours between pharmacy technician and EKG technician. I’m nationally certified as a pharmacy tech and EKG tech. Also have my BLS. Have an entire semester of research to put down also and 10 hours shadowing in anesthesia. Good letters of recommendation to go along with everything. What do you guys think?

Pretty good stats so far, but I would definitely recommend getting more than 10 hours of anesthesia shadowing. 8 is the minimum for most schools, and often advisors will suggest getting around 30-40.

Okay. I will try to do that. Is there anything else I’m missing to make myself look better? How much do they value volunteer hours?

Your stats are fine. My stats looked pretty similar but i took the MCAT instead. Just apply early and you will definitely get an interview. My friend got an interview and accepted to Emory with a bit higher GPA than me but lower MCAT and only had 8 hours of shadowing. Just make sure you do little things to contribute to the whole application (research, thesis, get publishes, etc.) I'm attending a different program but I went through the process last year and was in the same shoes as you. After applying with similar stats to you (minus GRE and my extracurricular/experiences being different), I had an interview invite to almost every program and was accept into the ones I interviewed at.

Thanks. That definitely makes me feel better. When exactly is applying early? I know some of the schools already have theirs open (CWRU, Missouri, and some others). Should I apply the day they open? I need to finish up a couple things on my app but if I need to submit it right away I can hurry these things up lol. Does an early app matter if they set interviews after the deadline? I know some schools do it on a rolling basis though.

I don't know if all schools care about volunteering, but I know Nova does put value into having volunteer hours as well. However, I couldn't tell you if it is needed to have them, or if it is just another bonus to have.
