Does anyone know if there are student loan forgiveness programs for AA's? I know they exist for PA's and Nurses (CRNAs, NP's, BSN's, etc..) I ask this question because usually only federal loans qualify for these programs and I am trying to decide if I am going to obtain a portion of my loans through a private institution or 100% federal.
The only loan forgiveness program that exist for AA's that I am aware of is the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. So you have to work at for an institution that qualifies. To my knowledge all university jobs qualify, and non-profit hospital jobs qualify. AA jobs with private practice companies would most likely not qualify unless you could prove you are serving underserved regions. Do some research on the Forgiveness Program and where you are thinking of working after school. Most importantly when interviews for jobs, make that a question you ask.
Personally, I just started working and am planning on doing the PSLF, as my insinuation qualifies. Current projections show I'll have about $45k to $50k of my loans forgiven at the end of 120 payments. My principle after graduation was about $170k, which includes all my federal loans from undergrad and AA school. Hope this was helpful.
That is very helpful, thank you! I will do some research. Do you mind if I ask where you went to school and where you plan on working? (Region would be fine if you are not comfortable providing a hospital name.)I was accepted to Nova - Tampa and begin at the end of May.
I am thankful in that I don’t have any undergraduate student loans. Would you mind if I asked how much of that 170K is specifically from AA school? I haven’t estimated, yet, how much my total balance would be at graduation.
