Hey there guys. I want to know if my stats are competitive enough to get into any programs. I have a 3.53 gpa and a 493 on my mcat. I've participated in my clubs at my school and will be shadowing an anesthesiologist in the upcoming weeks. What else should I be doing to help boost up my application? I'm currently a super senior (going to graduate this fall because i dropped one semester due to my father's death) so I'll be looking for a job while waiting to see if I get an interview. Is there any particular job that would help make a better candidate for a program? Thank you.
Many of the current AA schools have statistics on their matriculating students, which is a good jumping off point for gauging where you stand in comparison. Your GPA seems average (also depending where your science GPA falls...) however your MCAT seems on the low end of the spectrum. Although I don't believe all schools require the MCAT, it might be something you should look into retaking. I personally worked as an ER scribe and anesthesia tech prior to coming to AA school which I think really helped me to understand patient care as well as acclimate to the OR setting. Although EKG and BLS are nice things to know, you will learn it later on as a student as well. I personally think admissions would like to see that you are a candidate who has had some patient interaction and are dedicated working in a patient care setting.
Yes, that sounds competitive to me. If you really want to improve your chances for acceptance, take a BLS course and take the EKG technician course. I think the EKG technician course is only 6 weeks.
Are you currently in or graduated from an AA program? If so, can you tell me your stats, which school you attended and what helped u in the interview process?
I believe its a 35 percentile. I'll sign up for the GRE and will try to ace it since my MCAT score is so meh. Do you think I'm competitive enough to get in though, with my gpa, and theoretically high GRE? Can you tell me your stats and EC's?
