Hi, everyone! I am in my last semester of UG at USF. I am a biological sciences major, and until a few days ago, I had not planned on using it. I had sort of a quarter life crisis, and decided that I did not want to work in my current field for the rest of my life (dental lab tech working with CAD/CAM). So I started looking into other options and stumbled across AA. Nova even has a program in Tampa, so I would not have to move. I used to be a vet tech and have monitored patients during numerous surgeries, so I already know that I would enjoy AA as a career.
I am looking for a bit more info on the Nova AA Program that I can't seem to find online. Do they have a preference of GRE over MCAT? I have seen just the GRE listed in multiple places on their website, but I have only seen both exams listed in one place. How many students do the accept each year, and what does the class profile look like? Also what is the best way to go about finding AAs or anest. MDs/DOs to shadow? Thanks!
What everyone has said is correct. Nova does not calculate the gpa cassaa does. I only took the gre. Class profile changes every year. You have to contact your local hospital for shadowing. This a great career choice. If you have any further questions you can inbox me.
Nova's programs don't list their matriculant statistics, but for other programs the average gpa of accepted students is around 3.5 with a science gpa around 3.45. Competitive GRE scores are the 55th percentile range or higher and MCAT is around a 25. Some programs only accept the MCAT, but for the ones that take both, I think the important thing is to have a competitive score on whichever test you choose. If you're GRE isn't competitive, give the MCAT a try. If anything, you'll look dedicated. Contact Nova Tampa directly and I'm sure an admissions rep would be happy to answer your questions.
As far as shadowing, contact a hospital and tell them you're a prospective AA student looking for some shadow hours. If you know someone, that could help you get into shadow as well.
Tampa accept 30 students and Fort Lauderdale accept 45 student. I'm applying to the Fort Lauderdale campus myself. It's a great field/good pay and also allows you to have a good work-life balance. Good luck to you
