I am a student in the Emory AA program and am interested to become an AA for Cardiac. I recently heard that AA working for Cardiac in Emory hospitals needs to be in the room by 5:30am. This is too early for me... I wonder anyone who works there can confirm this? What is the working schedule there? Also, what are the pros/cons for working at Cardiac vs. General Surgery?
If you are in the program couldn't you just ask one of the anesthetists at Emory main or midtown? You don't have to show up at 5:30 for cardiac, but you have the completely wrong mindset if that's "too early" for you. In the Emory system at least, you won't get paid more for doing cardiac other than the extra OT you earn...that might explain all the people who've bailed out on it recently.
Btw, when you do your cardiac rotation expect to get there between 5:15-30!
