Hello all, I've been accepted to NSU's Ft. Lauderdale program. Just when my stress with being accepted into the program ended, I became worried with being able to afford tuition and living expenses. My wife and I have three children and we've been trying to allocate funds to cover all expenses while I'm in school. I have applied for FAFSA and im awaiting a response from NSU. I've also attempted to acquire a loan from Sallie Mae, but I have been declined because my co-signer and I were not credit worthy enough.
Is there anyone whose been in, or is currently in, my position and would be able to provide advice. Thank you.
My advice for you would be to try to find a credit worthy co-signer. I was in a similar situation for undergraduate and I had to ask my uncle to co-sign for me in order to get the loan. I assume by the fact that you have 3 kids that you are older, but maybe you still have a family member who can help you out. Maybe mom, dad, brother, sister, ask them maybe one of them will be willing, it never hurts to ask. As long as you are a responsible person which I would assume you are since you got accepted they should be willing to cosign for you if their credit is good.
I'm actually in the same boat except a different school. I'm also married with 3 kids and trying to cover living expenses as well. I'm waiting to hear back from Case about how much they will offer me so I can figure out if I'm going to have to take out other loans as well besides the governmental ones. I havn't tried Sallie Mae yet. I'll be in touch with any info I collect on the matter. Good luck!
Good luck to use as well. Another thing I'm concerned about it that funds won't be dispersed until a week before classes begin. That doesn't leave much time to move and settle in. If I learn anything new about this, I'll let u know.
