So I just interviewed at Tampa on Friday and was accepted not even an hour later. Awesome, BUT! I'm still waiting to hear back from Emory. I know I should just throw away the $500, but I was planning on doing that with only one NSU campus. Does anyone have an opinion in the advantages/disadvantages between Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa?

Hello, if you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA and GRE scores?

st, that's exactly what I am saying. I haven't even heard if I have an interview at Emory yet, but I don't want to rule out that option. SteveCoff, thank you! For some reason I had been leaning slightly toward Tampa. During my interview both the faculty and staff seemed so excited about the entire profession.
Yeah I see. Well, like steve said its all personal preference. Class size at Tampa is 30 whereas ft laud is 50. So i guess if you like studying in groups of students then ft laud might be better simply because there are more students to form a group, but if you like more personalized one on one time with professors then tampa might be better. Cost of living is something you can look into. Ft laud i think would be more expensive but idk. And also idk how much free time we will have to explore the surrounding areas but where would you like living better? The facilities in tampa were slightly nicer in my opinion but not really a deciding factor. Lastly like you said the faculty and staff that you met is something to consider as well because they will be teaching you. Lots to consider. Can I ask if you get into emory would that be your top choice? and if so, why? I'm kind of in the same boat as you and trying to figure out the differences between programs. good luck with your decision and congrats on being accepted!

Thank you! I'm still unsure on the Emory situation. Like I said I haven't been able to interview there yet so I haven't physically seen the campus; however, I have been told the interview is less friendly than at NOVA. That, to me, encourages a bit of a competitive air to the entire program instead of the air of camaraderie that was found at NOVA. But! Being from Texas I have never heard the NOVA name so at first Emory was definitely my first choice. I like the fact that Emory is part of the eldest schools for the program, but NOVA seems to have really blossomed and seems to really invest in the program. I'm at a lost at this point as to what I would do, but right now I'm leaning toward NOVA. Besides all of that though I have read that there are very, very little differences between the two programs as far as clinical area, job placement and the confidence of being absolutely prepared goes. Congratulations to you too! Let us all know what you decide and why
Yeah, I understand. I haven't decided yet either. The Emory campus is a lot like the Tampa campus. The entire program is on the 3rd floor of a building that is 10-15 minutes from the main emory campus. It's nice, and the simulator's, labs are older but I'm sure it works just fine. The staff was very nice but more serious than nova. But I agree with you, its been hard to find many significant differences between the programs, so then you have to look at price of tuition, and nova is less expensive. So i don't know if the prestigious emory reputation justifies the higher cost of tuition. They estimate it to be $45000/yr next year whereas nsu doesn't have an estimate for next year but I think the max it can be is $38000. Did you get your emory application in before the early decision deadline? Because I saw your gpa and gre scores, and we have very similar stats so I'm surprised that they haven't invited you to interview yet.

There was some miscommunication with my transcripts...blah blah. I just got my application in on the 12th of December. That being said I probably won't hear back until January, but I hope to!
Thank you for all of your advice and information. It really has helped.

For me it had to do with the location. I liked the Tampa area better and I liked the class size being smaller. A lot is just personal preference. I'm just not a South FL kind of guy!

I'm not sure I understand your situation. You've been accepted to nsu ft lauderdale and tampa and you've interviewed at emory but still haven't heard back from them? And you won't hear back from emory until after the "place a deposit to accept your spot in the program" deadline date for the nsu programs?
