AA school interview questions

Hello future AAs,

I think we should get a thread going for possible interview questions for the AA schools. I know deadlines are coming up and some people might have already gotten interview invites/or attended an interview. Please post the school and types of questions they asked or might ask.

Hi
I have had interviews at Case Cleveland and Emory. At Case some of the questions where:
Why AA? y not medical school, if you're switching careers be prepared to explain your switch. Why Case Western (especially if youre from another area that has a program) What will you do if you don't get in. What are you're strengths/weaknesses. Have questions prepared for the interviewers even if you already know the answers.Not really any unexpected questions, I made sure to have ways to explain anything in my application that looked question worthy, but I didn't get anything unexpected. Other interviewers did occasionally leave an interview session looking slightly flustered but i'm not sure what they were asked...They did ask basic questions like what led you along the path to AA? how did you hear about Case etc.The format at Case is 5 separate interviews with different Case administration (and one student chief) each one lasts around 20 minutes. There is alot of repetition amongst the interviewers but they all have different personalities so it is always different. There is a tour given by 1st years in the morning and later of the offsite simulation room with Dave Zigorski. There was lunch with the 1st years, more interviews and then video presentations by the heads of Case D.C and Case Houston.
Emory:
It really wasn't the stressful situation everyone made it out to be. It was a panel of 4 interviewers including the program directors, alumni, and a clinical head. I was with two other people besides me and our different backgrounds and knowledge about things really controlled the flavor and the tempo of the interview. I can imagine that everyone will get the basic "Tell me a little bit about yourself" etc. but the general conversation just flowed. There where no crazy random science questions although others have reported them. They did present some clinical situations and asked us how we would respond to them. They just want to get a sense of how you think, they are not expecting you to have technical knowledge.

What type of clinical situations? Like if this happened, how would you react to it type of questions? Were there any questions that you had to say "idk" to, like science related questions at Case? Good luck and hopefully you hear something positive from both schools.

Yeah the clinical questions were the "how would you react type". At Case there were no science related questions and nothing I had to respond I don't know to. It was really relaxed, laid back and everyone was really warm and accommodating. Thanks good luck to you too!!

Let us know once you hear back from Case. If you don't mind telling me, what were your stats like gpa, mcat and stuff?

Sorry I didn't mention that I did hear from case already... Around a week and a half ago. Looks like I'm gonna go there but not 100% sure yet

Congratulations on your acceptance to Case! Can you explain the reasons why you're leaning towards going to Case and not Emory ( I know acceptance letters haven't been sent yet for Emory)? Is Case the better program and why do you think so? And if you have an opinion on the NSU program I'd be interested in your thoughts on that as well thanks.

gpa 4.0 mcat 27r stuff I have lot of relevant life experiences/extracurriculars, I've done a lot of shadowing and I am switching careers from teaching.

I interviewed at Case DC (4.0 GPA/26MCAT) and the interview was really laid back. The interviewers seemed really passionate about the DC program and just want to make sure you are the right fit. They ask a lot of the normal questions like why AA, why not med school, why DC, and etc. they give you a few brain teasers as well, but that's nothing you can prepare for, they just want to see your logic and reasoning. I'm pretty sure I messed up all of the math questions in my interviews, but still received acceptances from Case, South, and more than likely Emory(will see in December).

Congrats AAinMD! I'm also going to choose Case I think! I liked their program curriculum as well as the passionate nature of their teachers and clinical instructors that I met during my interview day. Throughout my interview day I got the feeling that they REALLY wanted me there, whereas the other programs (except South) were just interviewing to fill their class quotas.

Im curious as to what you liked about Case over the other programs as well though.

Congrats to you too!. Everything you were saying about their warmth and personal attention. They were also very accommodating to some personal needs that I had. I also like that they teach regional which would enable me to do OB or blocks (although I understand that is less common for an AA) while at Emory they said they couldn't teach it because of the higher insurance necessary and the anesthesia residency programs need to fill their quota of regional for board passing. I just really like their enthusiasm and the student sounded really happy. Good luck!
