I'm a senior in college at a top university that's known to have a good science/pre-med curriculum. My overall GPA is a 3.5 (3.6 when I graduate) and I'm taking the GRE this week. I was originally pre-med but my GPA isn't the highest and also when I shadowed an Anesthesiologist I fell in love with the AA profession. My only concern is my grades in chemistry and calculus. Here are my grades in the prereq courses:
Physics 1111 = A Biochem 3100 = A Organic chem 2211 = B+ Bio 1107 = B+ Bio 1108 = B- Chem 1211 = B- Chem 1212 = C+ Calc 2250 = C+
Other science courses: CBIO 2100 = A CBIO 2200 = A MIBO 3500 = A MIBO 3510L = A I’m taking Phys 1112 currently, really hoping for an A.
Basically, freshman year is when i took the chemistry's and wasn't disciplined/went out too much/didn't study as much as I should have and didn't do well. I took the biology and Ochem classes sophomore year and improved a little and got B's. After sophomore year, I was determined and I've made straight A's in every course I've taken. I know C's look bad on an application, do you think I should retake the Chem 2 and Calc before applying? Or will they consider the fact that I've improved my grades since then and managed to get A's in biochem and physics... I'm a senior this year and I'd really like to go straight into a program without taking a year off. I'm hoping to do well on the GRE I've been preparing well. I plan on applying to Emory, South, and NOVA.. Advice on those who have applied/landed interviews?
Re: Should I apply now or wait? Emory, South, NOVA
South doesn't accept any grades lower than a B im pretty sure. Nova does though! So you would have to retake those C's before applying to South. I'm pretty sure South also has a strict cut off on the GRE (55th percentile or higher.) I would go ahead and apply to Nova though seeing as it wouldnt hurt any and if you do get rejected then the next application cycle you'll be a reapplicant and they can see you are dedicated by coming back to apply a second time and they can see how youve improved your application since the last cycle. I don't know anything about Emory though, sorry!
