I am first time poster long time reader on this board. I made the decision to start applying to AA programs a few months ago. My entire undergraduate career was focused on medical school and for that reason I took the MCAT in 2010 (26O with break down of V9 P7 B10). While this is still competitive for most schools Emory's average is higher. Would it be better for me to take the GRE instead? Does an old MCAT score of 2010 look bad when I am applying. Will they ask why I didn't retake a newer test?
For supplemental information on if my 26 MCAT is competitive for my application I also have a 4.0 undergraduate GPA in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from a large state university.
Thanks in advance for the replies! I hope to become an active member on this board and getting to know more about the AA profession.

you should be able to get in no problem. u can also get into DO med school and some MD medical schools.
re take the MCAT. the verbal is the hardest section to bring up. u did well in bio. PS is your worst part and the easiest to study for. focus on basic chem and newtonian/motion physics. the harder physics on the mcat is theroretical/applications and u dont need to study specifics on the none motion physics. i bet if you put in a couple weekends on basic chem and physics u can get that 7 to a 9 or 10. if u get into the 28+ range u can get into a lot of MD programs bc of your 4.0. average mcat school matriculent is about a 30.8 average gpa 3.55 so u can make up for a high 20 with your gpa

I was wondering.. doesn't that MCAT average for Emory seem high? I assumed it was because the large large majority of Emory applicants take the GRE and therefore the average MCAT was only calculated out of 2 or 3 applicants...? Any thoughts P.S I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Applying to Emory with a 4.0 but all my practice MCATs have been in the high twenties... Good Luck!

Emory's MCAT does seem ridiculously high! Especially when you compare to the other AA school averages. Case's average is 25.5 I believe.
I think I will take the GRE since it can't hurt. I'm curious to see how my scores compares to my percentile ranking on the MCAT. I kind of want to beat my engineering friends on the GRE too. haha Thanks for the reply K!
Good luck with the MCAT! When are you taking it? Take as many of the AAMC practice tests you can.

I think you are fine with that GPA and score. It never hurts to take the GRE as well. If you do well then you can submit two competive scores. If you dont do well then only submit your MCAT.
