The way the current practice laws are written in regards to AAs, they must practice under the direct supervision of an anesthesiologist. That means if there is no MDA, there is no AA either.
However as with anything, that can change. There could be a day when AA means "anesthesia associate" and they can practice independently of an MDA, just as CRNAs can do now. It all depends upon just how bad the anesthesia shortage gets in the USA.
