WOW: I didn't know Utah was a dominated MDA-anesthesia state with MDA only groups, That's pretty impressive in a way.
In my opinion if the Utah Medical Association and Utah Society of Anesthesiologist are very strong in passing this AA Bill then I would have to assume they want AA-Cs in their state for a good reason.
True yes you may have talk to (about 50+Anesthesiologists M.D. or D.O.) who do not anticipate bringing AA-Cs on staff to their MDA only practice group. In reality that's just 50+ Anesthesiologist vs. several thousands other MDAs/DOAs in the state of Utah, who I assume will at some point bring AA-Cs on staff in their MDA only practice group.
I do recall last year 2008 or maybe late 2007 when I got on line at www.Gasworks.com Anesthesia service which hires MDAs, AA-Cs and CRNAs. I can't remember if it was Texas or Washington D.C., anyway it was an MDA only practice group (No CRNAs) who was looking to hire 1 or 2 AA-Cs only to join their anesthesia group (TEAM).
This could and probably will happen once this AA bill pass in Utah. If this is they're intentions (MDAs recruiting AA-Cs to their MDA only practice group) then I feel the CRNAs at the University of Utah should have no reason to feel threaten by AA-Cs once this AA Bill Passes.
If that's the case in my opinion AANA/CRNA should help support and pass this bill, that way they want have to worry or feel threaten about AA-Cs coming to the University of Utah. Since CRNA/UANA/AANA can't respect AA-C/RN,AA-C/AAAA and work as a team in the ACT.
In reality It's not about CRNAs or AA-Cs It's about supply and demand using your resources when it comes to adequate anesthesia care to all patients. This means recruiting both anesthetists from two float pools as mid-level providers in the ACT instead of one float pool It's called common sense.
In conclusion once this AA Bill Pass whether CRNAs like it or not AA-Cs will have to do their clinical rotations at a Medical School or School of Medicine University affiliated and/or teaching hospital.
There are to many jobs in the state of Utah for AA-Cs and CRNAs to practice and/or work together. I'm sorry but with all do respect CRNAs can not do it all. Once again "POLITICS" from CRNA point of view when it comes to AA-Cs/RN,AA-Cs practice = Fear, Control, and Dominance.
