I think it's great that people like myself and Raja, who come from more diverse backgrounds, are getting into this field. I worked in the corporate world in various capacities for five years. Those experiences confirmed to me that I should be doing something more rewarding such as in the medical field. When kids come out of high school most people have no idea what it is they want to do with their lives. I'm very envious of people who know from the get-go what it is they want to do with the rest of their life, but that wasn't the case for me. It took me a number of years after a bachelors and masters degree to decide on the AA profession. I left a lucrative career, sold my home, and moved cross-country to pursue career as an AA. I think that shows determination and committment and that is one of the things the selection committees are looking for.
