I think you have a good chance. Healthcare experience is not required, but couldn't hurt. In addition to shadowing, I would suggest that you try to do something healthcare related over the next year to get a little hands on experience to show that you have tried it out and you know you want to be in the medical field. It could be as simple as getting a part-time job as a patient transporter in a hospital. Phlebotomist and CNA are other options in the medical field that don't require much training. From personal experience I know that it can be difficult to break into the medical field without some sort of certification or degree, but at the least you should do some voluteering a hospital. Like I said, this stuff isn't required, but I think they want to see that you've put some thought into choosing a career in the healthcare field and you know for sure that this is what you want to do. I never worked in the healthcare field, but I took a phlebotomy course at a technical school and did a 5-week clinical rotation at an outpatient lab. Even though my healthcare experience was limited, I think it helped me get in. Good luck.
