I don't consider any CRNA as mid level. We are full service providers of anesthesia who do so day in and day out with and without anesthesiologists. Those CRNAs who choose to work in ACT practice arrangements are capable and allowed by law to work without anesthesiologist supervision. The AA is totally dependent on, and clinically completely useless without an anesthesiologist. If reimbursement for supervision ended tomorrow, CRNAs would still be providing reimbursable quality anesthesia care unlike the AAs who would then be of little use to their A$A masters. The A$A resurrected the long failed AA experiment for one reason, to create in large numbers a provider who is under their complete control, thereby guaranteeing a billing opportunity for an anesthesiologist each and every time these doctors assistant come near a patient. Follow the money and you will eventually become less uninformed.
