Hi Scott it's the same manner as a any mid-level anesthesia providers anesthetists "both" in the ACT model under the supervision and/or medical direction of an anesthesiologist M.D. or D.O. must be present in the O.R. at all times when both A.A.-C./C.R.N.A. are inserting any central line (CVP) lumen x2,x3,& x4 quad, MAC-Super Kit, Cordis, & PA Catheter (Swan-Ganz). In conclusion for the PA-Cs who are AA-Cs and still practice as an PA-C in my opinion when your on the clock functioning as an AA-C I would assume you would have to follow the guide lines and protocols of an AA-C in the ACT. Which means yes you can insert all the above (central lines etc.) I have cited above but you would have to perform these invasive clinical skills in the present of an anesthesiologist M.D. or D.O. once he/she (doctor) are present in the room not independently. I hope I have answer your question. Another thing I would suggest Scott is go sit and talk with an anesthesiologists M.D./D.O. or anesthetists A.A.-C./C.R.N.A. that can really give you the answers you are looking for. Or go to the A.A.-C./C.R.N.A. professional web site and look at both anesthetists scope of practice, guide lines, & protocols that can also give you a lot of information you need to know.
