: For stanley Kristiansen & other uninformed CRNA the value of Anesthesia Technician(A.T.,Cer.) Archived Message

Posted by DC on May 12, 2008, 10:33 pm

This information is address to all other CRNAs and to stanley Kristiansen CRNA who have no "RESPECT" for ATs/ATTs who comments in his last post(Which I found very "rude", "unprofessional", & "Childish") that I'm the anesthesia technician that change the soda lime under the machine and said what a interesting profession(career)I have who do not know the value or the profession of Anesthesia Technician & Anesthesia Technologist(who we are and what were about). Certified(Cer.AT-Cer.ATT))or non Certified with years of experience who plays a big role in the ACT model especially Hospitals who do not have or employ Anesthetists CRNAs/AA-Cs at their facility.

I will include two sites of who ATs/ATTs are and that also staley has no clue that his own colleagues(CRNA/AANA)support ATs/ATTs, and why It's "ALSO" important for AA-Cs/AA-Ss to support ATs/ATTs too! as well It's only "right" we both are "allied health care professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Anesthesia Technician II works as member of the surgical team, providing patient care under the direct of a licensed anesthesia provider. Clinical responsibilities may include but not limited to the following: Cell Saver-Blood Salvage(sets up and runs machine during surgery); Blood draws from patient lines(e.g. ACT-Clotting time, ABGs, venous samples, type & cross); Immediate "emergency response" - provide "clinical" and "technical' support; Assist with patient transfer(to and from the O.R. bed Places monitoring equipment(e.g. ECG leads, BP cuff, BIS Sensor, Pulse Oximeter probe)); Assist with intubation, which may include the following at the "direction" of the Anesthesiologist MD : ensure all necessary equipment available & in working order, applies cricoid pressure, assists with fiberoptic intubations, provides jaw thrust, tongue pull, pulls stylet, inflates, ET cuff, secures airway or manually ventilate while the Anesthesiologist MD confirms placement); Prepares patient for access line placement and invasive monitoring(e.g. preps patient, prepares sterile field / equipment, prepares arterial lines, central venous lines, additional peripherial vascular lines, cardiac catheters, femoral lines, unilateral ventilation, fiberoptic and TEE probe management); Assist the licensed anesthesia provider in confirming patient blood products. AA/EOE

In conclusion I perform half 50% of what is mention in both job posting combine "clinical" and "technical" and still learning every time I have the chance as you can see we as A.T.s/A.T.T.s have a lot of experience when it comes to patient care as allied health care profession It's a great stepping stone in becoming a Anesthetist AA-C with the exception of a CRNA too if you choose to become a nurse and sacrifice 4.5-5 years in becoming a Anesthetist CRNA. No offence what ever route you chose to become a anesthetist AA-C/CRNA I wish you the best in your career, as you can see I do more than change the soda lime under the anesthesia machine as stanley Kristiansen CRNA quoted(I refuse to stoop to his level It's not worth the energy).

I'm also on the "Liver Transplant Team" which consist of two(2) Anesthesiologist MDs and one(1)Anesthesia Technician A.T.(Which is Me my self)there are NO! Anesthetist(AA-C/CRNA) on the Liver Team however I would like to recruit a AA-C and CRNA on the Liver Team which I'm working on now.
