    Henry,

I see no reason why not. I know of a number of anesthetists, in particular military personnel, who work M-F at their regular job and then do a little locums on the side.

However, I do wish to comment, I have seen people doing that and putting patient care at risk unnecessarily and that I feel is unprofessional.

They will work full time at their regular job then on their two days off, go work locums somewhere often signing up for 24 hour OB coverage. One will do it Saturday and another will do it Sunday. As a result, at the end of the 24 hours you got a very tired anesthesia provider. I have suggested they divide the shifts and each do 12 hours per day, one doing the day shift and one doing the night. That way each would be able to sleep in their own bed and no patient would be exposed to an overly tired anesthesia provider as each would only be on duty for 12 hours.

I was shot out of the water for that suggestion.

My view is money should not stand in the way of doing what is safe and the right thing to do.

That is also why I support the AA concept as I feel it is the right thing to do.
