Right now the AANA council on Continuing Education gives credits to programs run by Anesthesiology groups and to programs that offer credits for both CRNA and MDAs. How about some of those programs getting recognition for credits for AAs also? Or better yet, how about an AA group putting on a program and seeing if they can get it approved for MDA and CRNA credits? (Assuming the AANA does not torpedo the whole thing by not recognizing AAs as lawful providers. Be pretty tacky..)
Anyway, while many CRNAs do not work with AAs and in fact have never even met an AA, putting them together in a CE type meeting might just break the ice and made some of my fellow CRNAs realize they are basing their opinions on hearsay evidence. Once they get to know some AAs, they may realize the AANA is feeding them a line.
