I have many years of experience in Ophthalmology. It is a great field, but I did not want to go to medical school for so long. Also, working in the office can be very monotonous & I enjoyed working in the OR much better. Most of the students in my class are new graduates around 22-24 yrs old. Some are older. AA schools, like medical schools, look at your entire application. The GPA is good, but they also want to know your science GPA. They don't like Cs or below in any coursework. They also like to see that you are well-rounded. Some people may have a lower GPA or test score, but time has passed & they have gotten a lot of experience in the medical field & proven that they have the interest and the know-how. My best advice would be to get some medical experience (whether it be volunteer or real work experience), and apply early. The earlier you apply, the higher the chance you will be granted an interview & the higher your chance for acceptance.
