It's true there is some animosity, but it is not everywhere. I do understand how the AANA would feel threatened about AA's entering the field and basically going against everything they fight for (not to be supervised by a doc), but it can be overstated. I think you just talked to the wrong person at the wrong time! AA's are not bad in the actual field - they are equivalent. Even the SRNA's I've talked to say they have been a nurse for years but anesthesia is on a totally different level that nursing school/experience didn't prepare them for. Don't beleive people who try and make you feel like a fool - find out for yourself and shadow some AA's where ever you can. you'll find that they are equal. Years experience as an anesthetist is what makes you superior, not the letters after your name.
