Each program has pluses and minuses. Emory has been disorganized forever and is and always has been run by airheads. Their directors spend far too little time with the program, and the administrative staff pieces things together and are indeed rude and apathetic, yet somehow they produce quality anesthetists in spite of themselves. They haven't had to worry about online learning because they can support their entire clinical experience locally, unlike Nova and South which have insufficient local facilities to handle two full classes of students. Both of those schools allow their students to get their clinical totally away from the schools in their second year, and use teleconferencing as a way to keep in touch.
Case has always had a good reputation, and knowing their faculty, they will continue to do well in Houston and DC.
Emory and Case have the really tight med-school tie-ins and are true big-time academic anesthesia departments. Nova and South have looser affiliations with medical schools (yeah, I know Nova has a DO school), but it's not the same as the other two.
Nova and Case are HUGE supporters of the AAAA and the AA profession as a whole. South is to a little lesser extent. Emory has a horrible track record of supporting the AAAA and the profession - most progress by Emory grads has been through hard work and determination with almost non-existent help from Emory in placement of students and expansion of the profession outside of Georgia.
UMKC is gaining a stellar reputation quickly, if the knowledge base of their students is any indicator, since they ROCK at student Jeopardy at the AAAA meetings the last 2-3 years.
That being said - you can get a quality education at all of the programs. You're the only one that can decide what's important to you and which one is the best fit.
