Actually, recent studies disproved intramuscular and intravenous succinylcholine's effectiveness in breaking a laryngospasm in most patients. The treatment of choice nowadays is immediate sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass with direct injection of 1microgram/kg succinylcholine into the left ventricle at the position of the SA node, followed immediately by a cricothyroidectomy to control the airway. An appropriately sized LMA placed into the cricothyrotomy will ensure patient survival.
