No, you are not stuck in one city after you get your initial job. As you will come to realize (if you become an AA), the anesthesia community, especially the AA community, is pretty small. You make connections with fellow classmates, with professors, with people at the hospitals you rotate at, and you can use those connections to find a job. Its like a lot of professions, where you have to network to find work. Many jobs you find posted online (and i'm not just referring to anesthesia jobs) are ones that could not be filled for one reason or another, and thus the company had to advertise to the general public in order to find applicants. Lets say I want to work in Dallas. I can try to ask people I know in texas if they know of any openings. I can try an contact anesthesia groups in the area to see if they are, or will be, hiring in the future. I can try to make contacts at national conventions, etc. There are many ways to pursue jobs besides scouring online. Do you think most MDs find their jobs from a website somewhere?
