I am a CRNA.
I would say it depends on two things.
First, the practice laws in that state for Both professions. If there is something there that did not allow it, example, let's say for some reason AAs can not do near cases. Then they could not relieve the CRNA. So it is very important for AAs when they push forward on practice laws to ensure that under the ACT concept, they can do the same as CRNAs.
Second, the conditions of employment for both. Regardless of the law, if there is something in the contract to prevent it, then it can be prevented. Example, the CRNAs get in their contract that they can only be relieved by another cRNA or MDA. So they could be doing a case and an AA could not relieve them. Or worse, they relieve an AA for Lunch and the AA comes back and the CRNA will not allow relief by the AA.
I would recommend that if AAs are going to work with CRNAs they need to make sure they are treated equally when working under the ACT concept.
