Global Beatles Day It was the year 1960, on a foggy island found Nor-Norwest of Spain that music history changed forever.
Four young lads came together to form what would be one of the most influential rock bands to ever be. We're speaking, of course, of the Beatles, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr. These four lads came together to change the world one song at a time.
Beatlemania was a phenomenon defined by frenzied fans, sold out concerts, and popular merchandise, which permanently changed the landscape of popular music.
Global Beatles Day was created by a fan of the band, Faith Cohen. The day started in 2009, and Faith calls it a "love letter" or "thank you" to The Beatles. The date was selected because it is the date that the band participated in Our World in 1967,- a program on the BBC that was also broadcast to a global audience. They performed their song "All You Need Is Love."
In February 1964 the Beatles arrived in the United States. Their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show was viewed by 73 million people - about two-fifths of the American population. Their August 1965 concert at New York's Shea Stadium marked the first time a large outdoor venue was used for such a purpose with a record-breaking audience of 55,000, and that was just the begining!
