A short-lived fishy character named Phil was introduced by which fast-food chain? A - In-and-Out
B - McDonald's
C - Long John Silver's
D - Whataburger
Answer : B - McDonald's Food mascots come and go but one that few probably remember was Phil A. O'Fish from McDonald's. The filet-o-fish sandwich remains a popular item on the burger chain's menu since its introduction in 1962. The concept was the brainchild of a franchise owner in Cincinnati who wanted to attract his large number of Catholic customers who refrained from eating meat during Lent. Although McDonald's founder Ray Kroc was not keen on the idea, the pair agreed to a trial run. The fish sandwich proved much more popular than Kroc's alternative, a grilled pineapple and cheese bun. Phil appeared as an ad campaign mascot in 1976 but he didn't catch on, and had all but disappeared by the following year.
