Here is a photo of the old Fords (dark blue). The one to the left actually had a strobe light. The two(2) ID wagons parked next to the mobile command post (right of canopy) had the toggle switch that when flipped would activate the siren. The speaker was under the hood. It was mechanical, so once you let up on the horn, it would still take about 8-10 seconds to wind down.
I drove these "beasts" when I was a Cadet in ID. One was always down, so I got stuck going on ID calls with it. The Officers in ID always took the old BEST unit white wagon (pictured in center).
Kenny Stinchcomb always put in for new cars for ID, but they never made it through the budget. Eventually the old ID wagons were pulled off the road and we drove pool cars.
