My interest is the police department known as the Fifth District, prior to becoming the present AA Co PD. The Fifth District was an election district and covered up into Curtis Bay/Fairfield (where 2 police officers were shot and killed).
The building most of us knew as Law Brothers Hardware store in Ferndale had been the police station for the Fifth District. Old crime news articles prominently mention Ferndale and some old-time officers from then.
Other than me, has anyone else ever looked into the history of the police who patrolled Anne Arundel County prior to the founding of the present department?
Would love to share notes if so.
Seems there is a lot of crime history of speak easys, gambling operations involving organized crime from out-of-state, and corruption of "deputies", Police officers and Magistrates.
Deep rabbit hole but so interesting since I grew up in Ferndale.
