Re: The County Line
Bob you are exactly right. When I left CID and went to Northern I had known by then of the BPD antics on Pennington Ave. I got a call to meet them with a DOA in a car one evening. I checked the ADC Atlas map book for the county line before going out there. When I got on scene I was met by three officers. I looked at the car and the tire tracks...with the shoe prints in the dirt between the tire tracks which lead farther back toward the city. Their shoes were covered in dust from pushing the car . I told them it wasn't ours, showed them the map and said they needed to go over the next hill to make it into the county and asked for their sergeant. Thier sergeant arrived, and I showed him the map and the footprints and said I'd do my interviews at Hammonds lane. He told them they had the call and decide who's post and who was going to write the report. I graciously thanked him and got the hell out of there. They had literally pushed the car a couple hundred yards and needed to go about another 50 but their butts were worn out and couldn't take the next hill .. Hahahaha. As for "Drunk Ping Pong" I had that a couple times too. The most memorable, the guy had shown up twice at the 7-11 after I had taken him over the line to the Royal Farm. When he showed up that second time I said "self we're about the get busy and don't need to deal with this" I ask the guy if he wanted a ride home? Farther into S/B -Fort Ave area I think. Instead of the Royal Farm I took him to the "Cab Stand" (Southern District Sta) on Hanover St. and told him to go in the front door-see the man at the first desk and he would get him a ride... Perfect timing, as the guy got out of the car, I got the green light to turn south on Hanover and away I went. Never saw the guy again...ever. I hope he didn't become "crab bait" at the bridge ...not really, I never crabbed there so key sera sera it was South Baltimore, and 80s.
