speaking of "old time beer", when Bob Beck was my side partner in Brooklyn, his love was "Schlitz" beer. I drank anything out of a can. Anyway, speaking of how great a guy Wayne Marshall was, when I took over his paper route from him, I was about 10 he was probably 12 or 13. Anyway, there was one apartment on the route that owed him $4.80. I never saw them home and wayne said they were good for the money so when we settled up I paid him the $4.80. They never did pay me and later when we both were on the force, I always teased wayne that he "beat me" out of the $4.80 and we laughed about it. About 9 or 10 years ago I got a letter from wayne with a note saying he didnt want to leave this world owing me money and it included a check for $10 which he said included interest. I called him and told him how sweet the thought was but Id never cash that check. I still have it somewhere. Hope youre resting peacefully Wayne my good friend!
