Very sad to hear of Dru's passing at such a young age. My first assignment in 1980 after the academy was Western District, the old 503 post. Dru was assigned to 501, the MD City car. Working Pioneer City and the bars on 175, I couldn't have asked for a better back up. Always there when I needed him, which seemed often working the Strip on a weekend night when the bars were closing. And I got more than one complaint from PMO for flying through Ft. Meade to back him up in MD City. He didn't seem to need much back-up, but I always wanted to be there for him if things went south at the Starting Gate or 602 Club. Dru was always reading. He was very smart, knew the law, and was always reading police magazines to keep up on training and the newest police equipment. While assigned to Western, Dru learned of a new then 3-day training seminar called Street Survival taking place in Doylestown, PA, that he had heard about after reading the book. We were granted permission to attend by Captain Captain Pillsbury, along with Sgt. Adelman and Lt. Mikesell, who were task with developing a basic Street Survival training program at the academy upon our return that some of you may remember attending. Dru and Chuck Mounts and I became very close in those early years, and they both were in my wedding in 1982. But as time and carers goes, we all went in different directions in the department, and I would only see them on occasion throughout the rest of my career. I saw Dru at LEOSA a few years ago and it was great catching up for that short time. I'll miss him. Rest in Peace old friend!
