A former Anne Arundel Police employee was charged Wednesday with a misdemeanor theft scheme involving the use of his work E-Z Pass for personal trips, the department said.
Kenneth P. Moore, a civilian worker from Odenton, displayed an Anne Arundel Police E-Z pass transponder more than 70 times in his personal vehicle during the past three years, police said in a news release. Moore was hired by the agency in May 2018 and worked in the Bureau of Community Services, Marc Limansky, a department spokesperson, said.
The department became aware of the alleged scheme on Sept. 26 and Moore was fired “very shortly after,” Limansky said.
Moore, 58, used the transponder, which was issued to his county vehicle, to travel in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and New Jersey, police said.
After consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office, Moore was also charged with seven counts of misdemeanor theft, the department said. Allegations of wrongdoing date back further than that, but Moore was only charged for those counts that took place last year because of the statute of limitations, Limansky said.
