When I was Captain of Central District, I'd had my fill of Neilson's police-hating, in court comments and outrageous decisions. Not that I expected anything positive to come of it, but I sent a scathing letter to the editor of the "Sun" paper, attacking Neilson and challenging him to either back up his dislike for police with facts, or "shut his mouth". The letter ran just as I'd written it. Months later a third party attempted to play peacemaker by inviting me to a surprise meet with Neilson. After we met he may have toned down a bit, but he could never be considered a police ally.
