Brilliant perspective Dave! I don’t (overall) disagree. However, the “economy” measures as you so well explained, are not effecting affordable costs of goods and services for many - things that cost money, and are costing more. Neither you nor I (at least I can speak for myself) are well enough educated or experienced in national economics to predict what the “economy” and inflationary measures will develop to. But in the “here and now” our current COLA, specifically with the bifurcated measure seems now antiquated and out of measure. As for reducing the COLA in future years when formula benchmark measures are low, the current code allows it already. Again, I don’t disagree with your overall premise, but I think there does need to be some discussions to “modernizing” how the COLA is determined, calculated and could be more flexible with economic inflationary fluctuations.
