Brothers and Sisters, many families face a time when necessity dictates placing a loved one in assisted living or a nursing home. The rehab centers I was in were also nursing homes, and the food and treatment I experienced was the same for all their clients. The first facility I was in was out in Landover. It looked good, a newer building with nice looking rooms. The interview with the manager was pleasant. Seemed like a good choice. The reality was far different! Most of the personnel spoke poor English and were poorly trained. The food was poor, and I was frequently neglected for hours at a time, even after trying to get assistance. I was yelled at for making complaints. I would not send a dog to that place for care! After a week I had to go back to AAMC for another surgery. I found another facility close to home, and went there after release from the hospital. It was much better! The personnel spoke English, and did their jobs properly. The food was still bad, but conditions were much better! My point here is that you can't judge a book by it's cover, or a facility by it's advertising. When you choose a place the quality of the personnel is extremely important! Take a physical tour and talk to them as well as the management! And check in frequently with your loved one to see how they are doing. God bless you all and keep you in good health!
