Used to be you had to be damn near dead, with a lot of years paid into the system, or a major liability to the county before you got a medical retirement.
It took the county 8+ years to grant me a medical retirement, and then only after I had screws and rods implanted in my back.
Seems now every time I open the newsletter there are a couple younger officers who retire on a medical.
If I didn't know better (I don't), I say the county was trying to bankrupt our pension system so they can control it.
But we know the county wouldn't do that.
